“Phil Lauriat is a terrific coach who makes it his goal to get the best sound from you” said Monica Yunus, Metropolitan Opera.
My studio is made up mostly of young professional singers; I have coached and/or worked technique with over a dozen Metropolitan Opera singers, and cast and led about 40 productions. I currently have openings in my New York studio for technique and in my Boston studio for technique and coachings.
Technique:
I studied with Ellen Repp, and I am continuing her technique: Loose, Open, Supported.
You’re looking for a teacher to give you great technique – no mind games – that’s what I do. I am very good at making good technique clear, correcting vocal problems, and preparing young professionals for serious careers. If you are having problems with breath support, legato, tongue tension, register breaks, or vibrato I can help you fix them. I can help you recover from serious vocal distress (node recovery, asthma, etc.) and resume performing at a high level.
I do all this in a positive, demanding, supportive style.
I was never a ‘natural singer’; everything I’ve done I’ve had to build. So, unlike some “to the manor born”, I truly understand how to solve vocal problems.
My students are working professionals. Their gigs are anything from church soloists, oratorio and concert soloists, regional opera artists to Metropolitan Opera chorus and roster. I know what real-world voices are like, and what opera companies want.
Healthy singing comes first!
My areas of expertise are working with big voices, smoothing the registers, and fixing troubled voices.
Coaching:
Work with an opera conductor who has led award-winning productions. I have coached singers from the Met, La Scala, San Francisco Opera, and more, and I can bring to your performance the musical, stylistic and linguistic details needed to get that next job.
Studios:
Studios in New York City, Boston, MA and Temple, NH. I also work online, mostly over Skype. Please see my studio details.
